Noer Lewis – We need to be disciplined off the ball

2013-11-22 - Noer Lewis - SRB-ASD 2012-2013

SRBFC caught up with Noer Lewis at the team’s last training session ahead of the derby:

Like every SRBFC player, Noer Lewis will ‘take one game at a time’ this season but the 21-year-old will have an extra spring in his step when he faces his old club ASD (African Soccer Developments) today at UCT Astro Turf. A fixture that was came earlier than expected.

It was a fixture Lewis and other former SRB-ASD players at SRBFC looked for when the SAFA 2nd Division (SDD) fixtures were finalised. ASD v SRBFC, the first derby match, was originally scheduled to be played on the 16th December. (Click here to read more on the fixture change)

In 2009 at 16-years-old Noer Lewis joined African Soccer Developments (ASD) known at the time as Cape United. He experienced 4 years at the academy, playing in the Cape Town Tygerberg league and last season (2012/2013) making appearances in the SAFA 2nd Division for SRB-ASD. In the 2013/2014 season Lewis joined SRBFC’s SAFA 2nd Division team.

“We will expect a tough game against ASD, they are a hard working team I use to play there. We [SRBFC] need to work hard out there, give the same respect to the next team. They [ASD] are very good on the ball so we need to be disciplined when we are not on the ball, we just need to be composed and finish off our chances when we are in front of goal.”

Although firmly a SRBFC player, Lewis still has plenty of admiration for his former team.

“The management was all good to me, we worked hard, the coach Dougie always expected 100% from us on training and we gave 100% on Saturdays. So SRBFC can expect a team who will give 100% for 90 minutes”

“The spirit is high [at SRBFC], the coach encourages the team to pray together before games and [the unity] is one of the key things when going into the game on Saturday. Praying before the game and setting our sights on the [game plan].”

“[In this week’s training] Everyone is anxious and the guys that were at [SRB-ASD] are looking forward to the game on Saturday.”

we know their style of play, we’ve played in the system so we can take what we learnt

- Noer Lewis

Lewis feels that SRBFC has nothing to fear, having been apart of the ASD system for 4 years and having players like Denzil Fortuin and Laryo Mamba who both played at SRB-ASD last season, will be an advantage they’ll use going into the match.

“Yes of course it will help because we know their style of play, we’ve played in the system so we can take what we learnt in that [season] and use it in our team. At the moment you can say ‘Terra’ and Sherwin Bailey are the key players to look out for.”

” the guys here [at SRBFC] don’t need to worry much about ASD and the way they play because we know how they play, we just need to focus on our own game, take the coaches advice and just go out on the field and follow the game plan.”
