Abrahams – Positives, attacking options & getting the first win

Head Coach Waleed Abrahams on Steenberg United draw & looking for the first win.

  • Team’s overall performance in the 0-0 draw to Steenberg United…

The overall performance was workmanlike on the night. I don’t think both teams played well but the wind played a huge factor in the game. Steenberg FC is a very good team and we can take a lot of positives from the game. We defended well, kept a clean sheet and the boys played for one another.

  • Rotation of the back four…

The back four had to be rotated as Thando is away with Religious responsibilities, Mamba was suspended and Anees had a slight niggling injury. So personally the back four done well and kept a clean sheet and achieved their objective as a unit.

  • Finding the right combination upfront…

  • On 3 draws, 1 loss…

I think that’s been a problem for us, trying to put all our attacking options together and finding the correct combinations. Fortunately we blessed to have so many exciting youngsters with flair and the more experience over age players who guide them. Player like Moosa, Athini, Challo, Ballack, Akhumzi all compliment the players like Denzil, Zain, Terence, Hiema & Lele very well. We are working on improving this and all our attacking aspects of our game combined with defensive duties for each player.

  • Looking for the first win…

I think the game against FC Tygerberg and Crystal Palace we missed the opportunity to get six points as we dominated both games and had endless opportunities to win the game. Against ASD I think a draw was a fair reflection of the game, but that’s football, if you don’t take the many chances we created on the night it comes back to haunt you. Against Steenberg, considering we had a new back four, coming off a loss & the weather conditions I think a draw was a fair reflection of the game.

The next three games against Sakheni, Milano and Pirates from Worcester is gong to be very important as we search for our first victory & it starts today. Once we overcome this hurdle today things can only get better.

We been working hard in training to correct our mistakes and take our game to the next level. Also finding the correct combinations for the team with attack and defense is essential to the balance of the team. I think luck has been on our side but in saying that you have to create your luck and when it comes your way grab it with both hands. I’ve also stressed the importance of Team Work and Unity as a squad this past few weeks which will pull you through when things don’t go your way. We are all looking forward to today’s game and our first victory.

  • Whose injured & whose back…

Anees and Lele Hlazo are back from Injury. We have Athini, Akhumzi and Thando away with Religious responsibilities. Sakhi and Doc are injured but apart from this we have a clean bill of health.
